J.L. Stader is a company which specializes in reclaimed wood and hand cut stone. Our story began with our ancestors. Hand working wood to build a home, a barn; a foundation for their families. Today, we reclaim that wood of old growth forests and write a new narrative. J.L. Stader honors the craftsmanship of our pioneer ancestors by creating modern design with timeless character.
J.L. Stader scouts rural Midwest areas for barns and historic structures which contain the wood of old growth forests from centuries past. This unique wood captures and reveals dense grains with deep, rich color and patina. These timbers display the skill, craftsmanship, and quality of the pioneer ancestors of America who expertly assembled these hand cut, hand fitted structures. In the early 1800's, wood working and stone cutting was done by hand. Sawing down a tree and shaping the log with axes, chisels, and hammers to create a square beam. We reuse these hardwood beams were once used in timber frame construction in civil war era barns and buildings. We reclaim timbers that once served as hayloft floors, cattle feeding troughs, or the wooden walkway between livestock stalls. We rescue lumber that was once barn siding or the walls of a grain bin from a pre-civil war Indiana barn. We save the hand cut stone that served as the foundation, walls, or floors of these rural barns.
Today, we use that same old wood that was hand worked a hundred plus years ago to build each of our original farm tables, fireplace mantles, countertops, kitchen cabinetry, and antique wood floors. 1820's log cabin stone floors are reclaimed and given a new story in our hand cut stone table legs, countertops, table tops, landscaping, and tile work. Hand worked beams that once bore the weight of a barn roof are being reclaimed, reused, and make beautiful additions to any home as exposed architectural framing, mantles, table legs, end cut tiles, and decorative accents. Timbers that have been extinct since the 1850's are being rescued and used for tables, wall and ceiling trim work, and kitchen cabinetry. Marked by prairie storms, hooves, wagon wheels, and persistent time and toil, heritage and tradition, each piece shows timeless character and style that is discernable. Placed in your home, our products will create distinction and design that is one of a kind and matchless.
We can walk around in our Westfield lumberyard and tell a story about nearly every piece of wood. We have a passion to renew each piece into something extraordinary. Beautifully balanced elements and refined design make our products distinct. Our retail store in Carmel showcases different pieces of our reclaimed wood furniture. In addition to the items available for purchase in our retail store, J.L. Stader artists also craft custom pieces to meet our individual clients' needs.
Classic design and historic materials are the signature of J.L. Stader.
